7.4.2008

Two-day passes to Jalometalli are on sale.
Six new bands confirmed.

Jalometalli 2008 is proud to present six new additions to this year’s program. Joining the likes of Overkill and Satyricon in the dark realms of the program are
Trouble (USA), Astral Doors (Sweden), Pantheon I (Norway), and KYPCK, Barathrum and Heavy Metal Perse from Finland. The two-day passes to the festival are also on sale now. Once more, Jalometalli brings metal fans together at Club Teatria in Oulu on August 15 – 16, 2008.

The addition of Trouble, a veteran band of psychedelic doom metal and stoner rock, will further complement the high quality program and series of cultural events Jalometalli provides for its audience. Originally founded in Chicago, Ill, almost 30 years ago, the legendary American line-up broke up in the mid-90s, but made a comeback in the early 2000s. Their 7th album, Simple Mind Condition was released in 2007. The show at Jalometalli is the first ever in Finland for this widely respected pioneer band of doom metal.

For some reason, the Swedish Astral Doors has been left for less attention in Finland despite the fact that they belong to the strong tradition of old school melodic heavy metal, following the footsteps of such masters as Rainbow and Deep Purple. Their music pays respect and tribute to those legendary bands, and the vocals of the front man, Nils Patrik Johansson, are even comparable to the brilliance of none other than Ronnie James Dio. Astral Doors released their 4th album, New Revelation, in 2007, and they are ready for their first visit to Finland at Jalometalli 2008.

Pantehon I will bring their own treat of the mysticism of Norwegian black metal to this year’s program. The band’s music is brimming with original, melodic and pressing black metal-atmosphere and their career is on strong rise. They released their 2nd album, The Wanderer And His Shadow in summer 2007.

KYPCK (or Kursk in the Western alphabet) will add a tremendous amount of strength to the Finnish representation in this year’s festival program. The band that was founded by Sami Lopakka, the former Sentenced-guitarist and songwriter, and Hiili Hiilesmaa, the producer guru, released their debut album Cherno in mid-March this year. The fresh domestic newcomer goes deep into the chilly themes of the Soviet era with their pressing, doom-toned metal. And what is more – they perform authentically in the Russian language.

More high quality black metal at Jalometalli 2008 is offered by the long-term Finnish veteran, Barathrum. The almost 20-year-old band is known for their ripping, almost tormenting tunes of black metal and for their wild and unpredictable vocalist Demonos Sova.

A band with a cult reputation in Finland, Heavy Metal Perse from Kajaani, made its way to the awareness of the general public with the release of their first full length album, Eripura in January 2008. Despite their rather peculiar name, the band is a very noteworthy heavy metal line-up with a lot of potential. They have already charmed a wide population of fans with their jovial spirit and hard-as-a-rock heavy metal songs.

We will release the last set of artists for Jalometalli 2008 as soon as possible.

Jalometalli 2007 is also still warmly remembered. Last year’s festival met all our expectations and about 4000 fans crowded the Club Teatria area during the two days of Jalometalli 2007. The stunning main acts last year were Testament (USA) and Kreator (GER).

The two-day passes to the 2008 festival are also on sale now. The passes cost 58 euros and they can be purchased through Lippupalvelu (Ticket Service Finland), Tiketti and Levykauppa Äx record store in Oulu. One-day passes will become available later, as soon as all the bands for this year’s festival have been confirmed and the program is finalized.

There is no age limit to the festival, but there is a separate serving area for people of age. As usual, there are two stages at Jalometalli, one indoors and one outdoors.

Accreditation for the members of the media and professionals in the music industry will begin in May.

The first tunes of Jalometalli 2008 were heard already on March 29th with the third annual Jalometalli Winterfest at Club Teatria. This year’s Jalometalli Winterfest featured performances by Impaled Nazarene, Korpiklaani, Metsatöll, Before the Dawn, Shade Empire, Sear and Mors Subita.
