Jalometalli 2010 starts Friday!
The two-day Jalometalli 2010 will start this Friday at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland. Expectations for the festival are running high and the building of the festival site is well on its way. The main stage is already up and the rest of the organization is going forward with full speed. Due to the on-going construction work in the vicinity, the outer areas of the festival and entrance/exit ways have changed a little bit, and there will be fewer parking spaces than previously. The actual festival area, however, has remained the same. An updated festival map is available at the ”Info” section of the website. In addition, the “Blog” feature of the festival website is active again this week, offering recent news, photos and video footage related to the festival.
This year's festival preparations have had an added element of suspense, as the promoter of Jalometalli, Marco Järvenpää tore his Achilles' tendon while playing soccer a few weeks back. Unfortunately, due to the required rest and recovery period, Marco has been unable to participate in the last stages of festival preparation with full force. We're all wishing Marco a speedy recovery and all the best with rehabilitating the leg.
The Jalometalli after hours club gigs will be hosted by Nuclear Nightclub this year. This one-year-old club in downtown Oulu, at Uusikatu 23, will feature a number of Finnish bands on both Friday and Saturday. Both nights will open up with a local act, Torture Pulse on Friday and Disare on Saturday. The headliners for the club gigs are Axegressor from Turku and TotalSelfHatred from Helsinki. Tickets to the after hours club gigs cost 10 euros in advance and 12 euros at the door, Advance tickets are available at Nuclear Nightclub and at the Jalometalli festival area. Combo tickets to both the festival and after hour clubs gigs are not available, and tickets to each night are sold separately. Jalometalli 2010 passes or tickets do not allow an entrance to the clubs.
Jalometalli Kick-off pre-festival gigs are hosted at Juhlateltta on Lammassaari island on Thursday. The lineup features an impressive list of Finnish death and black metal bands: Horna, Sacrilegious Impalement, Winterwolf and Napoleon Skullfukk. Advance tickets cost 15 euros and they are available through Lippupalvelu (Tickets Services Finland). There is no age limit to the event. This year, the festival announcers will be familiar Northern Finnish metal heads and band vocalists who have played at Jalometalli a number of times: Kai Jaakkola (Deathchain, Deathbound), Risto Kurimus (Napoleon Skullfukk) and Mynni Luukkainen (Sotajumala).
The festival gates open at 3 PM on Friday and at 1 PM on Saturday. Ticket sales, wristband exchange locations and safekeeping will open an hour before the gates on both days. The VIP gate for accredited media personnel, artists and VIP guests opens two hours before the festival gates on both days.
Two-day tickets to Jalometalli 2010 can be purchased through Lippupalvelu (Ticket Service Finland), Tiketti and Levykauppa Äx record store in Oulu. Two-day tickets cost 60 euros in advance and 65 euros at the gate. Daily tickets are also for sale, and they cost 48 euros in advance and 55 euros at the gate. There is no age limit to the festival, but there is a separate serving area for people of age. Advance tickets are still available, and we will also reserve a certain number of tickets to be sold at the gate.
Accommodation and transportation packages to Jalometalli 2010 are also still for sale. Currently, Sokos Hotel Arina, Scandic Oulu, and Cumulus Oulu, and POHTO are offering accommodation packages that include a two-day pass to the festival.
